Christmas is not about Christ. It is about us!
He wants us to become more Christ-like!
So in a way it is about Christ, but not in the way most people receive it. A God who created the universe does not need a birthday celebration. He expects a whole lot more of us – a daily celebration.
It is at Christmas time that God pours out His Spirit over all the earth, for the ones that don’t know Him to get a longing to know Him. For the ones that do know Him it is a time to be reminded to become more of a representative to those who don’t know Him, but long to.
I remember as a child there was always something special around Christmas time; it wasn’t all about presents. There was an unknown longing for something and it was never satisfied. As a young adult the same feeling was still just as real! By then I was able to buy what my heart desired, so I thought. This feeling was different, was it a special need? A warming of the heart? Being more emotional? Having a hope for something? Wanting harmony? Wanting love? Wanting peace? Peace, I remember the wars of the 60’s and 70’s and the news on Christmas Eve when enemies quit fighting, even sat down together. Who other than the Spirit of God is able to spread such yearning over all the earth?
Why would God do that other than to win souls? What does He expect of us other than that we go out and shine for Him?
At Christmas time we need to rediscover what we may have lost throughout the year, refresh, rethink, rededicate, do less for self, do more for others. Instead of reflecting on the beauty that was given to us, we join into the same crazy race that the world is running. The Christmas season is the perfect time to reach hearts, to be of help to those who are stressed and haunted by unrealizable Christmas expectations, to live the difference.
I believe we are called at Christmas time, more than any other time, to sow the seed of God’s love and His Word. God makes people’s hearts vulnerable by pouring out His Spirit; but only those who know Jesus know the real Spirit of Christmas! If you are a Christian – go shine! If you don’t know Christ – ask what Jesus is really all about.
Merry Christmas!
