My Little Heart’s Desire
I don’t really know when I became a birder, it kind of sneaked up on me, but I am definitely one now. I love to watch the birds and even more, I love to take their pictures for my birding records. Two days ago my heart leaped when I saw a pretty blue bird on a Facebook birding page. Coming from a cold, cloudy, grey land, colorful birds count double and blue next to red is extra special!
My heart longed to meet one of these little feathery guys to take a beautiful picture like I had just seen on Facebook.
Less than 48 hours later - I am sitting at my computer and looking out of the window and I spot something blue on the power line. I guess you can imagine my heartbeat doubling as I slowly duck down to crawl towards my camera. “This is impossible” I thought. “How can it be?” As soon as I reached my camera, which was on the table ready to go, I turned to the window and tried to figure out in my mind how to get to the bird at this awkward angle without scaring it off. “Oh, it’s gone”. Still wondering what I had seen, there it came flying back and landed on the window sill. Then it hopped up, holding on to the window frame and checking out my office through the glass!
I shot till the little fellow took off again and then I hopped around the room saying, “Thank you Lord!” Wow, this was a blue bird! I shook my head, still in disbelief, till I looked at my pictures. Sure enough, this wasn’t just a dream – God sent me a blue bird to say hello! I have been living in these mountains for 22 years and I have never seen one of these glorious birds around here.
Now, you tell me the chances of a bird that is on my mind and that I long to see, flying onto my window sill and stopping for a short visit. The chances are zero... but God…
We have an awesome Creator and He loves to shower us with blessings, no matter how big or little they may seem. Always ask, even if it’s without words like in my case. I believe our Lord is delighted to give and He is also delighted to receive - the praise and the glory that belongs to Him.
Today, a week later, I am still walking around the property with my eyes up in the trees looking for my little blue friend. I haven’t been able to see him again, but I am still tickled about God’s ways.
