The Hug

I was a very young Christian, but my heart was on fire for the Lord.  It must have been 1996.  I was still married and very unhappy.  I remember this one night that I was lying in bed next to my sleeping husband.

The pain was so huge and I was at a point where it felt unbearable.  No sleep was coming and I silently cried, and cried out to the Lord.  In this moment of total agony, a warm pair of arms surrounded me and even though I saw them coming and felt the warmth of it, I never experienced the full hug; I fell asleep right in the middle of it.

When I woke up the next morning, I knew right away what had happened.  It was still so real and it nourished me for a very long time.  The Maker of the universe had come to little ol’ me and embraced me in my worst hour.  To this day I feel unworthy of that moment, but God…

I waited patiently for the Lord. He turned to me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand
— Psalm 40:1-2

May the Lord be with you, strengthen you and lift you up. I hope you will be able to receive all that He has in store for you.
